Wu Shuilin/Liu Xiangmei AS: Non-invasive antibacterial therapy that mediates angiogenesis and immunotherapy




Professor Wu Shuilin of Tianjin University and Professor Liu Xiangmei of Hubei University have jointly developed a light-excited hydroxyapatite (Hap)/nitrogen-doped carbon dot (NCD) modified graphene oxide (GO) heterojunction film. The separation of interface electrons and holes is promoted, and recombination efficiency is suppressed due to hole depletion. Due to the enhanced photocatalysis and photothermal effects, the metabolism of bacteria on the membrane is significantly inhibited under light irradiation.



In addition, the transfer of electrons from the plasmon membrane to the GO/NCD/Hap membrane further inhibits the adenosine triphosphate process of the bacteria, resulting in a synergistic antibacterial effect. At the same time, the electron transfer between the membrane and the cell membrane causes the Ca2 + flow after irradiation, which can promote cell migration and proliferation and the enhancement of alkaline phosphatase, which is conducive to tissue reconstruction.



In vivo experiments have shown that the repair of vascular damage is achieved through the Ca2+-activated PLCγ1/ERK pathway, which is determined by the enhanced expression of CD31. In addition, CD4 + / CD8 + lymphocytes are increased by activating the PI3K / P-AKT pathway. Therefore, electron transfer enhances the synergistic photodynamic and photothermal therapeutic effects of Ca2+ flow on the immunotherapy of bacterial infections. This gentle light therapy method with GO / NCD / Hap can repair injured blood vessels and relieve inflammation at the same time. It will expand the clinical application of non-invasive light therapy in the near future.
